“Skanska hired GMF Steel Group to install the new steel for the Renovation Project at the Tampa Convention Center. The Project had some unique challenges as all 633 pieces of steel had to come to the site via material barges as well as the new steel erection could only occur from the water. There was no laydown space or the ability to have a crane on land. The Team of Skanska/GMF Steel Group sat down and came up with a plan to erect both day and night to try and keep the schedule from slipping. This was quite an undertaking to pull this off as we had to erect steel from the outside during the day and erect the inside portion during the night as to not interrupt the Conventions that took place during the day. This required plenty of logistics and challenges to overcome with such a fast installation as well as the safety aspects. That is true partnering with both the Construction Management Team, Walter P.
